Inter-Library Loans

The Jake Epp Library works in cooperation with other libraries through out Canada to give our patrons access to books that are not in our collection.  If a patron requests a book that is not in our collection, they may fill out a request form and our staff will attempt to locate the book in another library and send a request on your behalf.  Patrons with internet access may search the online database themselves (after setting up a user ID online) and place requests with a click of a button.  (Membership is still necessary for this service.  Delivery and shipment are handled by library staff.)

To begin personally searching for books through ILL, click here.

The postal rates that apply to the shipment of books between libraries are currently very low thanks to the Library Book Rate.  This discount allows the library to provide the service to our patrons free of charge.

Usually this service is provided free to our members; however, some libraries do charge a fee.

Patron's will be notified in advance if any fee is required.

Save the Library Book Rate!

The Library Book Rate began in 1939 as a partnership between the Federal Government, Canada Post, and Canadian libraries. In 2005 it was discontinued as an official government program. Through the lobbying efforts of libraries and library organizations across Canada, Canada Post has provided year-to-year extensions. The current extension is due to expire December 31st, 2011. Its future is uncertain after that date.

It is the current low cost of the Library Book Rate that enables you to borrow from libraries across Canada, making 465 million+ library resources available to you, whether you live in rural or urban Canada.

Increases to, or the disappearance of the Library Book Rate could increase costs up to 24 times for libraries and greatly reduce your access to information, books, and library services.

You have a chance to tell Prime Minister Stephen Harper that you want the Library Book Rate partnership to be part of the federal government's vision for a prosperous Canada. Now is the time to speak up for your future and your free access to information and knowledge.
