Lively scenes of children playing in and around water are brought to mind with this year's theme Splash! Celebrate Summer. Building sandcastles at the seashore, fishing off the end of a dock, setting off in a canoe or just splashing around in a local pool are all part of the fun this summer.
The Jake Epp Library is proud to support literacy by once again offering the Summer Reading Program in conjunction with TD Summer Reading Club to all children in south-eastern Manitoba. (For more information on who can participate, see Rules & Details.)
British Columbia artist Kim LaFave, a recipient of the TD Canadian Children's Literature Award for Shin-chi's Canoe, has created the artwork for the program.
The Jake Epp Library’s Summer Reading Program and the TD Summer Reading Club have been successful in inspiring children to spend more time reading books and visiting their local library. During the summer of 2010, more than half a million children participated in programs offered at their local libraries and read more than 2 million books!
The goals of the Summer Reading Program are to encourage and strengthen the habit of reading for pleasure, to increase children's reading skills and reduce summer learning loss, but most of all to create lifelong readers.
